About Dr. Laurie Mattera
Professional Experience
Welcome, I’m glad you’re here! Congratulations on taking the first step toward your personal, spiritual, and professional health.
Before we begin working together, I thought you might want to know more about my professional background.
The following is a brief synopsis of my credentials and career experiences.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Illinois. I have been counseling diverse populations in multiple settings since 1998. My Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology is from Loyola University Chicago and my M.Ed in Community Counseling is from Loyola as well.
I’ve successfully worked with individuals, couples, and families throughout my career. I’m trained to assist clients with the problems of daily life by equipping them to develop their strengths, abilities, and competencies. We work together so they can acquire the skills they need to better cope with the situations and feelings they are experiencing.
My experience also includes work as a career consultant, where I assisted clients in making career and educational choices by exploring their aptitudes, interests, personality, and work values. Through in-depth consulting sessions, my clients were able to make informed decisions enabling them to plan their life’s work.
My doctoral internship was at the VA in North Chicago. There I worked with veterans suffering from PTSD, depression, anxiety, and workplace issues. Through the use of Cognitive Behavioral and Supportive Therapy as well as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy, the clients I worked with were able to better manage life stressors. While completing my doctoral externship in neuropsychology, I provided inpatient and outpatient psychotherapy to victims of traumatic brain injury, stroke, and those suffering from depression and anxiety. I continue to work in an inpatient hospital setting where I assist patients with anxiety, depression, and adjustment to lifestyle changes they may be experiencing as a result of their medical issues and hospitalization.
I also see clients via Telehealth counseling sessions online through my practice, Joyful Soul, LLC. I can help you work through problems you may be experiencing in your personal life, relationships, and career. I look forward to working with you.
